TL;DR

All you need are:

  1. Safety earmuffs
  2. Ear plugs

My Experience

Living at home with my family, I used to have to go out and find peace and quite elsewhere.

Heck, I even spent over $400 on a air of fancy noise canceling headphones.

But the truth is, you can get the same results, far more efficiently, at less than $50.

All you need are:

  1. Noise ear muffs
  2. Ear plugs

The practical result is that now I can work from anywhere, and not have the sound distractions from a busy household.

While using either one of these along work fine, you can create a super noise vacuum when you ear both (earmuffs over earplugs)!

I would say using both at the same time works better than any fancy electric noise canceling headphones on the market today.

I personally happen to have bluetooth headphones that fit underneath the earmuffs, thereby allowing me to listen to music in my own bubble.

The only real con is that if you’re in a virtual meeting, or need to make a call, you may need to actually use a quiet room so that your listener does not ear all the background noise.

However, I have seen (but not tested nor experienced) some earmuffs that offer noise-canceling microphones like the 3M Pro-Comms. Something to consider.
